How to get Sky Go Wirelessly to HDMI TV

Hi,
Got an email from the nice folks at Sky today telling me that I could have 4 Sky Go devices rather than 2. This got me thinking that it would be good to have Sky on my TV in the kitchen but where I don’t have a Sky box but it must be a wireless solution as TV on the middle of the wall and I do not want to run cables to it.

Not being very technical I hit Google and found that I could not use my iPad via Apple TV as specifically prohibited by Sky App.

Next I came across Miracast which duplicates displays if I have read correctly, so thought that I could use with Nexus 7 (2013, running Jellybean 4.3 is it?) that supports Miracast to a dongle of some kind. The net gear PVR3000 looked easy. (Only picked Nexus 7 as it definitely support Miracast)

Does anyone know if Sky App for Android has been designed to prevent this solution from working by blocking Miracast?

Big ask, I discovered the world of Android Sticks in my Google journey. They look even better solution but can I download the Sky Go app to them, anyone has any experience?

I suspect that there is an better way of streaming Sky go to a TV wirelessly so if you know how to perform this kind of magic could you please let me know.

Many thanks
Chris

I'm wondering whether the Chromecast will solve your problem.

Have you looked into it?

I did and it seemed that you use the tablet to select the content and then the source for delivery was the Gloogle Cloud.Given that that it is Sky there is no chance they will share content to Google for streaming so it seemed like a dead end.

However, if I have got it wrong then shout as that would be the simpliest way forward.

Thanks
Chris

I may well be wrong (indeed, I often am), but it was/is my understanding that Chromecast will mirror anything on an Android device running the Chrome browser to the TV to which it is connected.I guess time will tell.

Cheers,

Martin.

p.s. Have a read at this review. What do you read from it?

I doubt you can do it, the Sky Go app is specifically designed to prevent any sort of external output or display mirroring to protect the content, it is one of the reasons the current availability on android devices is limited as the app will not allow installation on any device where they have not been able lock out any form of output that might allow the program to be viewed or recorded outside the app itself.

Yeah, unfortunately, I suspect that you're right as the last thing Sky will allow is people to effectively have Sky Multiroom for free.

Cheers,

Martin.

I dont understand why it can be done on a laptop but not phone.

I'll have to leave that one to someone else because I don't know either.

Martin.

Sky are funny ones like this. One solution I read someone has done on the now TV box is to use plex.Annoyingly you will need a PC to serve it but apparently there's a plex channel for sky go and I would has it a guess that the plex app would work fine on most android devices or even the now TV box or a raspberry pi.Might be worth reading up some more but it could work

Looks like there's a skygo app for xbmc, would that work for you ??

Or if you have a bit of space behind your TV,could you squeeze in an Xbox, as that has a skygo app too ??
