For under £300 I'd say the zenbook is one of the best. I'm interested in it myself. It's £269 @ btshop

Had a Lenovo S8 50F 8inch tablet with Full HD screen, and it died last week.Chip on mother board went very hot.It was heavily used and anyway purchased second hand soI reckoned itgood value. Looking at its internals showed quality design and manufacture. .I    Replaced with the LenovoTab3 Yoga Plus 10 inch. ..Reckon that the S8 actually did me a favour in dying.
New tablet is brilliant, in every department.Brillant colours , bright super high res screen 2560 x 1600 , very fast, unbelievable , but true battery life.uses USB C connector and has a smart charger so the 18 hour battery ... yes they say 18 hrs, charges in a reasonable time. About 2 to 3 hours charging with the smart charger.
Does all the expected things of a tablet, but does not have fingerprint scanner or built in fm radio, which the older device had. No hdmi output , but will mirror and Chromecast which is better.
I have confirmed that the pinnicle PCTV android TV dongle works fine , when one of thoseUSB C to old microUSB adaptors is used.
300 euro approx. new at Argus .. You need to have this one on your short list. Its shape might not appeal, but I like it.

Do not confuse with previous models which maylook the same but don't have the super screen or the Snapdragon 652 processor.Lenovos' use of the yoga name is confusing and covers both windows and android products so you need to take care that you are picking the correct item.

Depends if you are comfortable with the 8 inch model or prefer the extra real estate of the 10 inches .. I think it makes a difference. A 7 or 8 inch will probably fit in a breast pocket or jacket pocket, if it has a tiny bezel, a 10 inch one won't. I now prefer the bigger screen , and the higher resolution ....works superbly with reading newspapers and subscription magazines, sometimes evenwithout zooming.
Note   There is a glitch in the Argus product description for that mediapad as it states2500 X 1600 in one place and 1920x 1080 in another .

Having used this for a while now, I'm very happy with it. It's had upgrade to android 7.0 and the 4gb RAM makes it very quick and responsive. My only minus is the poor position of the speakers at the bottom. If you are using it lay down and resting it on your chest you cover the speaker ports muffling the sound.

@gibblylinks what sort of battery life do you get from the Asus as it's on my short(er) list

Cheers

Asus quote 10hrs, I'd say that was OK for just reading a book. Obviously playing games would shorten that. Although I find it charges quite quick.

Excellent thanks, to be fair it'll be a casual browser and not a huge amount else

I am also looking to replace my old nexus 10 as it's playing up and just switching off

Anyway looking at
- Asus ZenPad 3S (Z500M)
- Lenovo Yoga 3 plus
- Lenovo tab 4 plus

The 3 plus has a 2k screen which I am very tempted by. I mainly use it for watching movies, BBC iPlayer etc on my daily commutebut the others are lighter and have a more up to date android
