The older version of the Vero4K had a 100mbit ethernet port. The newer one a gigabit port, however on the Vero4K forums the staff were adamant it was more for future proofing and a virtually zero cost upgrade than it was necessary, the older version should play 4K UHDfine unless it's one of these weird demos with stupidly high bitrates like Jellyfish.
I bought a usb to gigabit adapter for this very reason, but it still struggles. Both the ATV and my Panny 900 playback the same large files just fine, so defo the Vero 4K. Deciding if a shield tv or Zidoo Z9 will replace it.
This may be a daft question but why do you need "auto resolution switching"?
That is weird. There is no way a NAS should go to sleep while playing media. It definitely shouldn't go to sleep unless you told it to.
Without it you would need to manually change the player resolution via the menu every time you played a 1080p file vs a 4k one, depending on what the bare resolution you set. Quite irritating based on prior experience (for me at least)
Hmm that's what I thought you meant. I'm not sure you need to worry about that. When you play a file on Kodi it sends it to the TV which will then scale it to the appropriate size. Many blu-ray players have scaling on by default which means that they upscale the picture to 4K (for example) before it reaches the TV. But this does not make sense if you have a top end TV because the scaler is nearly always be better than scaler in the player. Unless there is a setting in your TV telling it not to scale just like players have?
Anyway, you should never need to change the resolution to play media of a different resolution. There are some wrinkles to this if you are talking about computers and computer games.
I use a lumagen scaler so I want the player to output the correct resolution and let the scaler do the work. Without the auto resolution switch the player with either upscale or downscale the file (unless you remember to change it). I found myself forgetting on previous media players, hence it’s a feature I like to have.

I've just checked and apparently new Android APIs have been provided to deal with this and Kodi uses them. While I didn't know the detail until just now, I'm not surprised because I've seen the options within Kodi.

No problem. I've just set my shield to 1080p but I had to manually change the refresh rate to match my TV because it defaults to 24hz.
