Should all usb ports work with with everything?
My motherbaord is aMSI Z170A PC Mate, All usb ports work accept one if i try to put my usb mouse or cd writer in nothing happens i thought that usb port was dead faulty, but if i put in my flash drive it works, Why would that be is there something special about that one usb port? if i connect my tablet to the one port it powers it but my pc doesn't see anything connected. Sometimes there's a USB port dedicated to restoring settings after a failed overclock but that'd be marked and mentioned in the motherboard details. Also, two of your USB ports are on a different controller so that could cause variation in behaviour, but you'd expect it to affect both rather than just one. Something then cant be right, As there is no mention in the MSI handbook. Its the slot underneath the HDMI slot. I also have two usb slots at the front of the pc case and they are acting as they should. It may be a dry joint on the USB port, minor tolerances with USB plugs may mean it works with one device and not another, also a device connected to a USB socket doesn't need all the pins to charge but it probably does need all the pins to be recognised If that might be the problem its time to get hold of the place that built it for me. It seems that my USB flash sticks work because its USB 3, anything that is USB 2 will not work in this one port. That is still not how it should be - USB 3 is backwards compatible with USB 2 True in practice, although they are technically separate standards. I've never heard of anything implementing USB3 and not USB2 though, the Intel controller here definitely does. True its not how it should be, I do have the choice of sending my whole system back but its just one USB thats a problem. I have till November to make my mind up if i want to send it back. Are you using W10?
I have similar issues with 2 of my motherboards 6 USB3 ports.
The latest round of W10 updates caused the issue.
W10 will insist on replacing manufacturer drivers with its own generic ones which cause erratic operation.
If so, go to the MSI website and download your latest motherboard drivers.
It might fix your issue once they are installed.
It did for me.
