Motherboard Audio help needed
Hey everyone.Need some help.
Im away to build a new gaming rig and was wondering if it matters what audio codec the Motherboard has?
I will be using it for playing music, watching movies and gaming.
It will be connected to my sony str-dn1080 reciver using a HDMI cable.
So will the receiver benefit from a better board with a better codec?
Thanks
just reading this back and thinking it will be connected to the gpu anyway. will that make a difference?
am i best to use a optical cable from the board?
the board im looking at has
RealtekĀ® ALC1220P-VB2 Codec. The audio chip won't matter if you're not using it, which you won't be if you're using your graphics card's HDMI audio device instead.
It primarily makes a difference if you're using analogue outputs where it'll affect sound quality. If you're using a digital output like S/PDIF then the differences lie mainly in features such as real time dolby digital compression for games (required to get 5.1 over S/PDIF) or headphone virtualisation.
So basically ignore it unless there's a particular piece of audio processing you want that your current setup doesn't provide. Thanks for that dude.
