Different res/monitor combos for different users logging into windows poss? (same machine)
Hey folks.Does anyone know of a way to save display settings based on who is logged in to the same PC.
USER 1 has res 1080p duplicated over two displays.
User 2 had res 4K duplicated over two different screens.
Depending on who logs on will depend on what res/monitor combo shows up.
Any ideas if there is anything on the market that can do that? Or if it’s possible to save the display settings and run them as start up scripts based on user profile?
Thanks. Are you logging in locally to the machine or is it connected to a domain I.e a work one.Either way should be possible to run something either via task scheduler or domain script.
As to what I would have a look at display changer II.
Display Changer II
I use it to change between monitors but it could also do your scenario too.
Is this to help with the text being too small? https://www.avforums.com/attachments/0ca050c7-2eb6-4fce-89a5-ebd969405393-jpeg.1066303/ https://www.avforums.com/attachments/1fb3cd3c-3b79-49d6-b25b-8f25aac5d598-jpeg.1066301/ https://www.avforums.com/attachments/f40fabcd-3bbe-46f1-a86c-9e3609fc3c64-jpeg.1066302/ https://www.avforums.com/attachments/1fb3cd3c-3b79-49d6-b25b-8f25aac5d598-jpeg.1066301/ https://www.avforums.com/attachments/f40fabcd-3bbe-46f1-a86c-9e3609fc3c64-jpeg.1066302/ Thanks. It’s all local. I was thinking along the same lines. Problem today is if you set resolution. Windows 10 sets that for all users and if someone changes res that res then becomes the main one irrespective of who logs in.
I came across some software while reading up on this that is suppose to auto set res/display config on login. I’m assuming it’s either tweaking the Reg or some ini file.
Why am I going down this path I hear no one ask?
Right now Iv got two pretty decent machines. Ones dedicated to htpc and full on couch gaming machine. All seem less and zero keyboard required. and my other main one is for my FPS/office type of gaming/other stuff. The main rig hardly gets used... and looks like this..
Liquids now white...
Plan is to sell the htpc for parts
980s in sli, Asus maximums vi extreme and some other bits that will still fetcha decent amount today.
And use the main rig as my HTPC and also PC... Why wouldn't you want the same resolution if it's the same screen connected?
If user prefer different sizing then use the scaling setting instead, which should be saved on a per-user basis. So nice quiet HTPC then data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
I did sort of data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
But now I am slightly more confused do you mean you have 4 monitors in total (2 x 4k, 2 x 1080p) or something else you are trying to achieve.
Having said that look at Display Changer II it should do the job for you and it's free.
The way I use it, is to save an xml file which contains the current configuration.Change it to an alternative configuration save xml. Then I save a shortcut on the desktop to run the relevant configuration.I can also setup a keyboard shortcut to said icon which helps if it gets confused.Repeat for each different setup.
In my case I have 3 monitors in my study and also an additional Plasma and Projector.I have configurations for 1, 2 or 3 Active Monitors (another computer has configurations for 1 and 2 Monitors) and then also for the Plasma and PJ so I can game\HTPC too.
If I change it then it does set the display for all users but then I can set it back again. I do indeed.
2 displays in two rooms that are SAMSUNG 55” 1080p and two monitors in the office that are both 27” but 1) LG 4K and 2) Asusrog165hz (no the extra refresh rate still makes me a noob) Panel 2560x1440 screen in the office.
Both machines/27” monitorsand all hardware are in the office with one 1080p display in the office and the other one in the living room.
Htpc powers on sends display through marantz sr7011 and powers the main display in room 1, also powers second display in room two via zone two if needed.
And if I wanted to play music instead via zone two I have yet another cable going direct to the GPU on the htpc powering that display in the office.
So htpc GPU> direct to tv in office
Htpc GPu > to AV
GANIMG PC direct to the other two 27” monitors via hdmi and display port.
Plan is to replace the HTPC and just use the main gaming rig as an all in one.
Hence main rig will start up and boot straight into big picture mode (launchbox)
Just as I have my HTPC today which is as seemless as I could make it. (And family friendly)
But if I need to use it on the other displays in the office it boots up. I log on and that should hopefully only power the monitors in the office.
Sorry for giving you a headache !
If everything was 4K resolution including the monitors it won’t really be an issue....
mmmm with that said might just look at selling the monitors!!!
The 4K TV is planned for Jan19 purchase.... a part of me that’s been PC Life loves the tweaking to get basic crap working . The other part that’s getting older and has been using an iPhone is like wtf man. Get a life...oh I miss the nights of running defrag on my hard drives!!! DC II should still work however I can't see how you can have auto logon and also then expect to put your credentials in ?It's either one or the other ? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Create two accounts.
Account one just user name no password.
So the computer boots straight into desktop.
Account two normal user name and password.
Normal behaviour is depending on last logged on user the pc boots into that account.
But that can be easily fixed with some Reg edits.
Honestly it’s alot easier then it use to be where you had to go mess with Reg files.
In windows 10. Setup a local account and don’t set a password.
Perfect family friendly UE data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Thanks, yes that wouldn't work for me.
I got rid of Windows and went for Libreelec much quicker data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 I hear you man.
I would love to give Libreelec a try or even steam OS. but the lack of games in my library that are supported... plus the hit on performance.
I still remember the days of windows 7 and 8 where the platform was almost perfect for htpc. Media centre and media playback options as well as having gaming ability that could not be touched. Consoles where a joke.
But now...
MS could have been an ultimate platform.
Instead it’s fragmented. You have steam, uplay, Origin, MS store... which is great for choice but... if you want that seemless console based experience then Windows is no longer the way forward. If your a desk gamer.Hallelujah no console can match what a PC can do. If your willing to spend the $$$ data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Another small rant. I started my working life’s on the helpdesk and when the user calls to report a problem. What was the common response. Have you turned it off and back on again data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Now with windows 10 latest builds, restart and shut downs are no longer actual restarts and shut downs.
Leave a few tabs open or task manager. On a restart they will pop straight back up.
Now mix in a flacky Xbox controller session or a steam game bugging out and not opening or some other crash... and on a “restart” issues are still there.
You have to do a good old fn ctrl and f4
Anyway enough rant.
I’ve invested too much in my hardware, games and builds to abandon the MS world.
But I will either be buying the next gen console or switch at some point.
