@Fat_Tony Unless you're going to up the budget or spend lots more time looking for something, I would go for Mark e19's pc. Buying used parts is often a bother and an avforum moderator's pc that hasn't been used for gaming, and has been used with a stable PSU...well, it takes the risk down quite a bit. Plus that cpu at 4Ghz will be very respectable, and you have your choice of gpu to go with it.
Replacement cases of a similar quality to consider would include Fractal Design (R2, 3, 4 etc) and BeQuiet ranges. Or you could put a custom sticker on the front and call it character. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

It looks like Microsoft want you to use Windows 10 so much they are letting you renew the trial over and over with minimal restrictions. Details here:
You Don’t Need a Product Key to Install and Use Windows 10 EDIT scratch that, I think this article is out of date....
I'd just do that for a while, but if you don't want any hassle whatsoever, just buy a license from here or another reliable retailer:
Microsoft Windows 10 Home Edition Operating Systems - Microsoft Windows 10 Retail Home OS Operating System Software Disc USB Download | SCAN UK
Preferably the non-oem ones as you can then use it on your next motherboard without any bother (just check with Scan on the phone perhaps but if it doesn't say oem it means its a retail license that you can port to your next PC).
Also make sure you buy the 64 bit version not 32 bit.
It's really simple to install windows. You just start the process, click 'next' a few times and choose your time zone. Wait 10 minutes and you're done.

This is about the same speed as the i7 2600k at slightly overclocked speeds by the looks of things, just under £500, reduced from £600:
PC SPECIALIST Tornado R3 AMD Ryzen 3 GTX 1050 Gaming PC - 1 TB HDD
But with the used one above from MarkE19 you'd be getting an SSD, option to choose whichever graphics card you want, blu ray reader, quieter case, better PSU, top shelf motherboard for its era, so plenty of sata / other ports to add new hard drives etc.
Plus the Windows license you buy would be portable to the next machine, so it's a better deal imo for the £500 mark, assuming you can collect / pay for good delivery.

Thanks guys, so am I correct in thinking we would just need a graphics card and windows?
Would something like this be suitable:

That does seem very cheap for the money. It's direct from Amazon by the looks of it too, so I guess it's unlikely to be a scam seller. Odd that the description lower down is in Spanish though. Maybe it's a clearance item or something unless it's just mispriced.

It's an option, but compared to the used one up for grabs, still a poor choice:
UserBenchmark: Intel Core i5-6400 vs i7-2600K
The i7 2600k beats it even at stock speeds, where the AMD system above also beats it cpu-wise.
It doesn't have an SSD and HDD it has a hybrid drive, which AFAIK is not as good as just having a separate SSD and HDD. Hard drives are cheap.
