Cyberlink now on subscription
I note that PowerDirector Cyberlink 365 is now available for £5/month. Is this a growing trend? I think a lot of software is likely to go this route. It all started with Adobe Pro software, but others do look to be following them. Also worth pointing out that in reality it is not £5/m but £59.99 a year which 'equates' to £5/m - to pay monthly it is £17.99/m (or £34.99/quarter) which is a huge jump

11days left at time of posting If you ( or Friends) use a particular software then it's probably best to go with that. They'll be a help should you run into a snag during Edit.
The bigger issue is that a subscription will probably mean older versions won't work ( e.g for making a correction to earlier Edits ), - time will tell how generous the software companies are. No doubt we shall find they include "Extras" that become intertwined unless removed quickly.... so the subscription become an Wallet-open deal.
Of course you could stick with any non-sub software and hope it's not been time-limited, orthe vendor has crippled it should you post at their forum, etc. Perhaps the Answer is to use a separate PC for that.
It is a worry that companies are forcing Users to have their PC "open". The excuse is they will fix bugs ( but that may mean they include Features that aren't fully tested (!)). Oh dear and I would prefer my software on a DVD - so if ( er, When), the HDD fails I can re-install and everything is back to normal.
I guess the price is "progress" - but it could also be the end of piracy - something that Software vendors hate... yet it does enlarge their "Platform" which is good in the long-run..... ah but Execs only worry about the next 12 months and their Bonus.
Cheers. I've used Cyberlink software (different bits & pieces from DVD/blu-ray/HD-DVD to video editing) in the past & found nearly all of it to be unstable on my systems (from Windows 95 to Vista/7) despite installing various software patches for said software.I stopped using their software 10 years ago. Unless Cyberlink have improved the stability of their software I won't be subscribing anytime soon. Reads like "incompatibility" - - - what are you using nowadays?
This is the reason most Vendors offer a free 30-day "trial" - does this apply to Subscription... I wonder? - or will they take your money anyway and you have to jump thro' hoops to get it back, if you don't want it ..... I steer clear of "Cash-backs" for similar reasons - Just drop the price!
Also, I'm not sure 30-days is long enough if you are a beginner - as it can take a while to get usable footage before you can take advantage of the "advanced Edit features".... Well i was using pinnacle 10 years a go but for the past 4 years since recording 4K i have used cyberlink and very few problems, the latest version 17 is great. For windows stillfree

Make cyberlink work for their money 100% agree. It runs rock solid on my PC and I've never had it crash.
I'm running last years v16 though, is v17 much of an upgrade?
Mark. Hi Mark,i never had 16 but 17 is great betterthan 15 i had before,4K renders 1.5 x faster than the film on my pc and even if all the clips need stabalising and cropping etc it still renders in real time, yes happy with it
