LightwaveRF light switches with bathroom fans
Has anyone any experience with using LightwaveRF light switches with bathroom fans. My bathroom light and fan is on the same circuit, would I need to seperate them if I wanted to fit a LightwaveRF light switch? My LED / Fan setup works with Lightwave 2 Thanks, I was concerned as a standard dimmer shouldn't be used with fans (from what I've read) Not quite sure of what your are proposing or currently have. However, if your existing bathroom light is set up with the fan on a run on timer, activated by the switch wire from the existing switch, you may encounter problems using a Lightwave (dimmer) switch. Some smart switches, like Lightwave operate without a neutral by passing a small current threw them, to enable it to work (the smart function). In this case, the switch wire to the fan, will be permanently live, and the fan will think its being asked to run.
I would speak to Lightwave technical, and consider another switching arrangement for your fan. My setup has the fan goes off with the light, so my HA system sets that circuit up with a timer to turn of after a few mins of inactivity Yeah is does, turns on with the light and runs for a few minutes when lights off. I'll speak to lightwave, might have to use a pulley or PIR. Lightwave recommended putting the fans on a seperate circuit and using one of their mini relays to activate it from the light switch. Mmmh, putting on a fan separate circuit might not be a simple task. I have heard of other dimmers and fans causing problems. Do you really need to dim your bathrooms lights? Why not have some less bright lighting, as an extra to the main lights. Or just light a few sensoring candles data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Yeah, I would need an electrician for that. Ironically, the fans were seperated (on a pulley) until we had a new bathroom last year //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif
