Marantz CD6006 vs Marantz CD63se
HI all,OK i haveMarantz 63se from new, unfortunately its not the KI signature version. It like me is showing its age and the draw now groans and sometimes sticks plus playbcak sometimes skips. I was wondering if i should get it repaired OR plum for the CD6006 uk edition which seems to have fantastic reviews even to the point of you need to spend into the 100 pound area to notice a real sonic improvement.
I would be interested in people views on the repair or buy. Thank You. If you can afford it, upgrade. Marantz players at the time of the 63SE are great players but their lasers and drawer mechanisms could deteriorate. It probably could be mended but you may as well put that money towards a new 6006UKSE with a warranty; it's built to a very high standard and sounds fantastic. Hi,
I have the Marantz CD6006UK player along with a £2,000 amplifier and a pair of £1,200 speakers. I have asked questions about this system on these Forums and I don't recall anybody saying that the CD is a weak link. It sounds pretty good to me although it has not had a great deal of use yet.
When so many people speak so highly of a product, it tells you something. Thank you The cd6006 is a very good player. Good DAC, well built and a very good performance. If interested it also has a very good, if somewhat low powered (27mw), headphone socket. Certainly enough power there to drive low ohm headphones. No contest - purchase the CD6006 UK edition.
I too have owned a Marantz CD63 SE (mine is the Mk2 version - not KI either) from new. Assuming you connect the old Marantz to your amplifier via analogue connection, then I'd bet the new CD6006 UK edition will sound quite a bit better. And the main reason for better audio quality is down to the modern DAC built into the new player, as mention by gibbsy in post#5. DAC's have come a long way in the last thirty years or so.
I still use my old Marantz but connect via its coaxial digital connection to a modern stand-alone minimalist, cheap DAC which gives a marked improvement in audio quality. If your player was still functioning well, I would have suggested the same approach, but it isn't so time for a new player.

I have not yet made my mind on an amp to go with it, which is what i first started looking at data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7. But have started a thread in the seperates part of forum. Hi - I have an old MarantzCD6000OSE Limited Edition I'm guessing about 25 years old and was wondering about updating it to either a CD6006 UK edition or a Marantz CD5005 which RS have for £179 - I was going to wait until Black Friday to see if there are any special offers - I don't use my cd player as much as I should being lazy and using lossless files on iTunes - the other option I had thought on was getting a Panasonic UHD player which hopefully would double up as a good replacement I'll post on the appropriate forum to see what their audio for music playback is like - or if anyone has any other ideas I'm connected to a Denon AVR-2300W receiver and have Monitor Audio Bronze stereo speakers with a MA subwoofer and centre speaker TIA Hi well ive done it. Brought the Marantz Cd6006 uk ed. Picked it up this pm. Now tinge
of doubt crept in as salesperson said the Marantz was a bright sounding player especially if matched with Tannoys. I would be better trying xyz etc. I held on thinking the reviews i read all said it was rich sounding and also the help i had on hear. I hope i have done good! Now to save for an amp. An honest opinion or is the salesperson after another sale?
I would describe the analogue output of the Marantz CD63 SE Mk2 player as having a forward upper mid-range/lower treble (which I initially attributed to my new speakers - shame on me for being so naive).
For me, adding an outboard DAC evened things out tonally and really tidied up the splashy treble too so I expect the modern DAC built into the CD6006UK edition to offer similar, if not even more noticeable, sonic improvements.
