No it's not. The cd6006 is very detailed and some people often interpret this as being bright. In fact I would say that Marantz players are on the warm side. I use my 6006 almost purely for headphone use and it's a very pleasant easy, detailed, listen. I also have the sa8005 SACD player which is connected to a Rega stereo amp and Lehmann headphone amp. The typical Marantz signature is there for all to hear.
Obviously speakers can and do make a difference but that's as much down to the amp more than the source. I have three pair of headphones and they all sound different with the source being either the 6006 or 8005.

Utter Bobbins from the sales rep. Yes, Tannoy could appear a bit forward to some ears but that’s because how much more revealing separate units become as you upgrade. I’ve never heard a “bright” Marantz player in my life. You cannot buy a better CD player at that price point.

I was all set to buy the 6006 and was put off by the salesman who said it didn't sound great with the speakers I bought off him. The Dali oberon 5. I have an old pm7200 marantz amp. Is he talking rubbish.

Do you mean the amplifier? Where is this shop that discourages you from buying things? Was he recommending a different unit, perhaps a more expensive one.....?

Hi Cedric,
It annoy's me so much when salesmen come out with this sort of drivel. If he was any kind of a salesman he would have organised some kind of demonstration for you and then highlighted any issues to you. Your the one who's making the purchase so it should be you who decides !!
Recently I went into a branch of a well known chain of audio A/V equipment stores and while I was enjoying a free lollipop, the salesmen brought out the Marantz CD6006 I had ordered. To go with it I also purchased a pair of £50 Chord interconnects. Rather than let me pay and go on my way, the two salesmen started playing this stupid childish game. Oh, do you think the customer would be better buying the other chord interconnects (more expensive x2) as he'll be getting a much better sound from the C.D. player than with the one he has chosen ? Yes of course he would came the reply from the other salesman. I could feel the hairs rising on the back of my neck, but fortunately I was able to keep calm. What I should have done was cancelled my purchase for the C.D. player, got a full refund and walked out of the shop.
I honestly do not believe all the hype about interconnects, but I'm willing to invest a small sum towards them in the hope that they convey a clean signal. What I object to is being taken for a mug.

It's so annoying - the people you come across when you haven't got a gun to hand.//static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif

Sorry it was the CD player. I havean old arcam alpha 8 that struggles to load sometimes so needs replacing. He was suggesting the arcam that retails for 700 that also streams. Strangely what hi fi have never reviewed it. He was implying the 6006uk CD wasnt a great match for the oberon. Or perhaps he just wanted me to spend more on the arcam.

For it's price I don't think there's a better CDP than the Marantz 6006. I've used mine with a couple of different amps and receiver and the performance is good and detailed, it does have that warm Marantz signature. I've also used it with three different pairs of headphones and it is only the differing quality of the 'phones themselves that have made a difference.
I also have a Marantz sa8005 which is a better performer than the 6006 but with it's greater price point and components is not unexpected. My 6006 is soon to be replaced by a Denon DCD 2500 because of it's lack of SACD playback. I will always highly recommend the 6006.

Rest assured, the CD6006 is an outstanding player. Find a new hifi dealer. People like that are doing the industry a dis-service.

I am about to buy 6006CD secondhand as the 6004 I just posted on here about the tray started playing up, I was thinking about buying brand new one but my brother said buy secondhand, he has always ranted on at me about buying brand new he does not see the point.
I have a Marantz 6004 amp they will go perfectly together and a pair of Tannoy's what were 5 star rated in 1997 I love my Tannoys. Before them I had a £300 pair of speakers what were 5 star rated and the Tannoy's sound better. I will report back soondata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
