On the subject of lagging, I've had two Samsung tablets and they both turned into unresponsive pieces of crap after 18 months.

I did yes, to go with my Android phone. It was pretty dumb with no connectivity other than Bluetooth, no NFC for payments, basically a footstep tracker with about 30 days battery life, and using the Bluetooth protocol to display notifications. No information sending home.
