Based on the Express article I linked to I think they opened the pre-orders at about half 10 / 11pm or something late like that which might suit some more than others.

Just had my email notification from Nintendo store uk (15.34pm)
Ordered 15.40pm, all good it seems, only £69.99 but upfront payment I think. Yeehaa
