I found with an ex girlfriend the biggest thing to make gaming easier is remove the 3rd dimension. Keep it simple, up down left and right with minimal buttons to press, analogue sticks just confused her.

I can see that. My eldest picked it up quite quickly, my youngest was happy shooting bubbles.
