Avoiding Eye Strain while gaming?

I have good eyesight, I don't wear glasses, and I don't have any eye related problems, BUT I get really bad eyestrain while gaming. Sometimes it gives me a headache that's so bad I have to sleep it off for a couple of hours.

I'm not able to game for more than about an hour at a time.

Does anybody have any recommendations for avoiding it?

Lighting colour\position, distance from screen, changing screen brightness, anything?

I’m not sure what environment you Game in, but I used to game in a dark room and would often feel eye strain.Best thing I did was use bias lighting behind the screen and all is good now.

I don't suffer from eyestrain but I saw an advert for these the other day. I have no idea if they work.

How far do you sit from the screen? Light or dark room? What platform do you game on, what resolution and FPS are you getting? Is the latter sustained?

I game at 1440p at a comfortable distance with some light, susceptible to headaches and nausea from FPS fluctuations usually but my G-sync monitor helps somewhat.

I have found that sitting farther back really helps me personally.

I make sure to look around at different distances during loading screens, etc. So my eyes aren’t at the same focal length all the time.

This might not apply anymore, but does seem to help: In the CRT days I was told the vertical refresh fooled the brain into thinking you were blinking, so you didn’t actually blink and the eyes dried out. I’m not sure it applies to LCD, or even if it was true back then. I try to remember to do some rapid blinking occasionally, and feel a little better for it.

I don't suffer eye strain. It's always best to play in a well lit room or with computer glasses.

I use BIAS lighting behind the TV when gaming and watching films, I've got extremely sensitive eyes and used to get eye strain really bad.

I can game for hours on end now. This isn't my tv in the pic but you can see how it works. White is the best colour.

These are the light I use, much better than the cheap strip style. I hope the links ok to use.
