3D Bluray price drop thread
there didnt seem to be a thread for this other than the steelbook one, so i will start it!i currently dont have a 3D tv..but i have been upgrading my movies to 3D/2D combos just to future proof myself...
however 3D blurays dont seem to be cheap..they also dont appear to drop down in price , which is odd..in fact some go up in price..
i noticed particularly the dreamworks stuff (ironically the ones i want like how to train your dragon, megamind etc are sometimes an astonishing £29.99..
traditionally I would start with a bargain myself, but I simple cant find anything!
so i want you to post any 3D bargains you see.. on this thread(preferably with links), which will be of use to all of us who are interested in 3D (real 3D blurays only please) Spy Kids 4, Piranha and Final Destination 5 seem to go cheap at Amazon. it is annoying when the 2D version drops, that the 3D doesn't. Green Lantern 2D was £5.99 at play for a while yet i didn't buy it because i wanted the 3D one, which has never dropped below £14.99
There were some price drops late last year/early this year, mostly at HMV, (i got Final Destination 5 for £10) but this year has been expensive for Blu-Rays of all kind , both 2D and 3D. as the normal price drops don't seem to be happening. Probably something to do with the vat relief from the channel isles being ditched.
Check out sainsbury's entertainment though, they are the cheapest for nearly all 3D titles, they just don't appear in price comparisons. I asked find-dvd about that and they said they hadn't been given permission to include their prices. Certain ones seem to be fairly cheap compared to their initial release..
Usually when things drop in price, especially new releases, that's an indication that there's something new round the corner that either
1. Makes you have to buy certain devices (again) to benefit from the latest technology
And/Or 2. Makes you have to (yet again) buy your entire collection on the new format
1st you had VHS/Betamax war, betamax ending up obsolete, then it was VHS for pretty much quite a while till DVD came on the scene ( with laserdisc and Vcd in-between) then it was from DVD to HD-DVD and Blu Ray, Blu Ray being the winner, now it's Blu Ray with various titles being in 3D Blu Ray 3D Green Lantern was £9.99 at Play a few weeks ago, I got one.
Keep an eye on Play Trader as there are bargains to be had. deffo worth a bump, any bargains out there guys..the price just doesnt seem to drop below £20 odd quid for the dreamworks stuff its pretty annoying..in fact it appears to be the same for loads of 3d films..they need to drop the price if they want people to get into 3D Piranha 3D I got for something like £5 at Tesco. But then, not a particularly good film, and not particularly good 3D either.
Are "limited 3D editions" (e.g. Thor 3D, Captain America 3D) really that limited? Mark Kermode said on his blog recently the studios acknowledge people aren't happy with cinema ticket prices for 3D being higher than 2D prices. So they're going to charge the same for 3D and 2D screenings. The problem is they're not planning to reduce 3D prices but increase 2D prices. Yet, compared to Piranha 3DD, It's Citizen Kane.
I'm quite happy that 3D and 2D will be the same price as people who just go the cinema to meet up and chat will hopefully go into the 3D showing and I can have some peace in the 2D room! If you find somewhere that's showing 2D I had to see The Avengers in 3D (no 2d showing at the time I could go) and although love the film watching it in 3D was torture.
