Negatives to vaping underpower?
New to vaping, and had a Smok OSUB 80w sub ohm kit.Generally very pleased with it, and also bought an Aspire Cleito tank to have an extra flavour option.
When I bought it I am sure the guy said to set it at 32w which I had been using for about 2 weeks now. After having done a lot of reading and changing the coils, I noticed that the recommended wattage is between 55-65w - the coils are both 0.4ohms. Having tried it in that range, there is definitely a slight flavour increase, but the vape is also noticeably warmer, and I think I prefer it at a lower power (around 40w).
So I was just wondering if there are any downsides to vaping under the "recommended" power for the coils? No not really mate, the "recommended" power setting is what the manufacturer suggests is the sweet spot for the coil but its totally subjective.
I have a few friends that vape under the suggested setting and have never had any issues. Keep turning the power down as an experiment, you will lose the vapour production and taste.
Not all setups agree with the individual and you soon learn what setup you prefer but if it's too low you struggle to heat up the coils or end up taking long draws but miss the flavour and vapour production.
You often see reviewers on YouTube setting below the recommended range on some of the big sub tanks and many will say it's to warm for them where the manufacturer recommends. Thank you both for your comments.Have been sticking around 40-45w and think it is my "sweet spot".
Happy to hear it shouldn't be an issuedata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 I vape the cleito 120 at only 60w as I don't like how warm the vapour is if running at the recommended wattage.
I liken it to a car, just because the car CAN do 150mph, doesn't mean you should drive at max speed.
I also noticed that the coils last 3 x longer if you turn the power down.Someone more cynical than myself might suggest that coil/tank manufacturers WANT you to burn through coils in less than a week data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
Mostly I use rta tanks and still run them lower than most people would. It's all personal preference at the end of the day, whatever works for the individual is ok. Thread tidied, any more off topic comments will be deleted and points awarded. Its all about personal preferenence. I vape at a very low wattage and enjoy it. What I tend to suggest is to start low and increase the wattage until you find your personal sweet spot.
Its a bit like smoking a brand of cigs, some find Marlbourgh are great others prefer Silk Cut or BandH. Everyone has thier own tastes.
No one can say that such and such a wattage is the best for you as it is up to you and it is very dependant on airflow, coil, tank etc. Do what you are happiest with. For me, it's not about power it's about temperature.
Every juice has a sweet spot in terms of what temperature will evaporate the flavours and bases in such a way as to just taste yummy.
I use a TC setup and when i press fire and take a draw the power pumps into the coil at around 50w, rapidly reducing to around 20-30w to maintain the temperature I've set.
If i was on power mode, i could use a 50w setting, but then I'd either have to draw a hell of a lot stronger to keep the coil at a good temperature, or just accept potential burnt / dry hits as the coil and juice overheats.
i could also just use a 20w setting, but then I'd have to wait for ages for the coil to get up to the correct temperature before i could take a draw. If i didn't I'd be taking weak draws and it wouldn't be that great.
It's a bit like cooking something on the hob - you don't always whack the heat up to full power and cook until done - a lot of the time you bring to the boil, then simmer for a while. you will just notice a lack of flavour when underfired
