When I was a school, a trip was organised for people to go to China and everyone was raving on about how they can't wait to eat Chinese food every night. When they got back the said it resembled nothing of our Westernised takeaways. It's all rice, nice and a boiled meat, if you're lucky enough to afford the meat that is.
I imagine this is the same for most foreign cuisines, we only see the puck of each style I imagine.

Western style Chinese food is extremely high in carcinogens, which is slightly worrying.

What carcinogens would you be talking about?

Yup bit crispy but ok and I was in Chengdu, Sichaun Province at the weekend had basically a lamb a whole one in a pot, brains, tongue, all the organs tasted good. Ain't had dog but I could if I wasn't a dog lover. Love the food here, it's like the lottery when you have no pictures in the restaurant data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I went to a very large restrauant in Beijing where 'Peking' Duck was the speciality. As guest of honour, I was offered the head, which was unceremoniously cleaved in two right in front of me. Nice.
Other interesting foods were discs of jellied ducks blood, looked like the inside of a Jaffa cake, but tasted like a nose bleed - and heavily spiced slices of dog in a very watery soup.
After a couple of months of eating nothing but Chinese food, the experience of a Chinese takeaway has been tainted somewhat

Well most of the food in the Chinese take away are actually invited in Europe or america. In china spring roll are eaten fresh not fried. noddles are not fried but cooked fresh with soup. things like sweet and sour chicken are purely invited for western taste. The problem with Chinese take away is when they offer real Chinese food over here, people not willing to try it or scared of it.
