Over five year out of date mayonnaise stored in a cupboard. Thanks Mum!

Got a large bottle of Marmite that's about 6 years out of date

Anyone use the food dropped on floor '5 second rule'? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Nope, been working too long in the cleaning and sanitisation field to even consider the 3/5 second rule as viable!

My parents had a corner shop and after they sold up at the beginning of the 60s, were left with large quantities or certain items that we ate over the next few years! I particularly remember the blackcurrant flavour Instant Whip and the Energen bread (cotton wool?) rolls. There was also an endless supply of Fynnons Salts, Brasso, Silvo, Lux soap flakes and sealing wax. In fact, I still have the latter! Don't get to seal many letters these days....

Taste any good?

I have previously knowingly consumed picked radish in a jar that was some 5 years past its best before date and I have lived to tell the tale.

I'm pretty sure I recently finished a box of glucose powder that expired in 1990. Its been in my parents cupboard since I was a child, we used to get a tablespoon in our milk if we were ill.

Last month I found a 20 odd year old can of Cremola Foam amongst some of my old climbing gear.
The paper seal inside the can was still intact, it tasted fine, and brought back some fond memories.
Probably doesn't really count as food though.

My mother in law has a very cavalier attitude to dates on food, she once made me a sandwich with mustard that was 8 years out of date (tasted fine) and also gave me a can of beer last Christmas that was completely inert when I opened and poured it, it was 12 years out of date.
