Think Fever Tree was the branded tonic I tried and I really didn't like the taste.
Any other tonics recommended to try?

I use Sainsbury's tonic as well. The Indian slimline. Tastes fine to me but I'm no gin connosieur. I can't be drinking tonic full of sugar. Same with coke etc, always the zero/diet version.
Anyway, I've been getting in gin recently. I really like the Brecon Hills one and comes in a nice bottle too. Currently drinking Bombay but will try another new one next.

Slimline is a travesty for gin! But honestly it's what you're used to.
Best tonics are Fever Tree and Fentimans of the usual brands, but always buy 150ml cans if you can - this is the perfect measure to 50ml gin

I get the standard Sainsbury's Indian tonic not the slimline.

Favourite gin tried recently - Sipsmiths
Highly recommended - Martin Miller
Wouldn't drink it if it was free - Bathtub Gin

Do you mean Ampleforth's Bathtub? If so it's fantastic! I find sipsmiths nice but a bit generic
