FWIW we wanted to do the Gin Festival when it hit our local city but missed out on tickets.
We decided to stage our own version at home - it was remarkable how much variation there was and how much we differed in our opinons.
We tried 7 gins and a bunch of tonics and rated them out of ten (found the picture)

If I drink a gin and tonic or have a martini, it's much harder to work out how I feel about it.
I have the same problem with wine and beer though.Unless it's really lovely or absolutely rank then tasting in isolation doesn't help me form an opinion.

That's the gin menu from our holiday hotel in Mallorca recently.Managed to work our way through quite a few.Hendricks with cucumber and black pepper, and Fever Tree tonic was a favourite, as was Gin Mare which would be served with either 1724 or Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic.
The barman was brilliant, took a real pride in every gin being accompanied by the correct tonic and garnish. What he said was garnish in first, followed by the gin.Then swill around so the garnish infuses.Then add the ice, and finally tonic, poured in over a teaspoon so that the bubbles stay in the tonic.Very refreshing after a hard day by the pool data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7.
I'm not surprised he took pride with those prices!
Pretty standard prices tbh.In places that know how to serve a G&T, you're generally talking £10-£12 for a double (which is the only way to have G&Ts!).
Which is also why I don't have an issue buying so much gin @ home.When amazon were doing silly lightning deals, I was paying £20-£25 for a £30-£40 bottle of gin.That's 2 drinks in a gin bar....

Over a long period of time (i.e. many years) the alcohol will start to evaporate; but I'm still drinking bottles I bought and opened 2 years ago and they don't taste any different.
