My monthly bill wasnt even £100 a month before the install and that's with a 6 bed detached and 6 people living in the house so I doubt you will save that much Jazz. £150-£200 is what I make from the feed in tariff which isn't bad for an £8000 outlay. The actual saving on my bill is about 30% and prior to fitting my monthly direct debit had gone up to £83 a month. The big money is in the feed in tariff that the government pay.

I meant £200/year.
So you make £200/month on feed-in, what tariff is that on?

I am on the old 46p a unit one I just got in time. I think I got just short of £1900 last year at 43p a unit plus about £300 of savings for the year.

Tell me about it...data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I work from home so make sure any high energy use goes on when the power is pouring in, so we use just about every drop generated.I can see that if the house is empty during the day, you're not going to save enough for it to be worth the hassle unless you're getting a good feed in tariff.

There are people home all day at ours and as you say washing machine/dishwaser etc is all done during daylight hours to maximise.

I'm getting a couple of people round next week as the green deal allows you to pay for the install using the savings.
I am also using the immersun immersion to heat up the hot water with the electric that isn't being used.

Jazz Monkey Jr Publish time 26-11-2019 04:03:16

So how much do you produce on a cloudy day? Is it enough to run dishwasher etc?

I use 6200 kW/year on electric and 13500 kW of gas in a 4 bed detached.
In Nov 09 I was paying 8.3p/kWh and now paying 12.8kw/h for electric and 2.7p/kWh for gas which is now 4.28p/kWh

54% increase on electric and gas in 4 years.

On a cloudy day in the summer it can be 10-11 units in the winter it can be less than 2. I will check how much I pay when I get home.
