I'm really struggling to find G9 40w replacement LEDs.
Most I can find (of decent quality) seem to be 25w replacements.
Do such a thing exist?
Another question, can I run LED's of a standard dimmer switch if I don't ever dim them, and just use the push in for on/off?
Have you looked at these? Claim to be equivalent of a 40w.

They are dimmable but it is recommended you replace your old dimmer with an LED dimmer.
Using an old type dimmer only works with some LEDs. And it is difficult to know what will work before you buy. If you get the wrong type it can cause the LED or dimmer to fail. Best to buy a new dimmer as old types were designed for incandescent lamps and not electronic types. The dimming method is very different.

I just did some comparisons on three different bulbs with claimed similar(ish) light output. (The values below are readings from my meter)
Claimed 40W incandescent = 35W, 36VA, giving a PF of about 0.96.
Claimed 9W CFL = 10W, 16VA giving a PF of about 0.6
Claimed 6W filamant LED = 4W, 5VA giving a PF of about 0.75
So by replacing a 60W incandescent with a 4W LED I am reducing my load on the national grid by 31W. OK, I'm getting a bit of current 'for free' but who cares, apart from the tree huggers?
Incidentally,GLT, your explanation of why I leads V in a C, was really good. I was in electronics, mainly radar and comms, from 1961 to 2000, and although I knew it did, I never thought about why. I assume that I lags V in an L because the back emf is greatest, (thus the V difference being minimum and hence I lowest) at maximum rate of change of voltage i.e. zero crossing (now I've been prodded into thinking about it). Does that sound right?
Sorry, without reading through the whole thread, can someone give me any info on whether I would need to change transformers to change from halogen bulbs to LED equivalent?
Would be looking to replace some under cabinet individual downlights from G4, some individual ceiling downlights from GU10, and some ceiling lights using multiple G9 halogens (these would need to be dimmable)
EDIT: Looks like some LEDs have built in drivers to run off of the 230AC current
I can only say I have replaced the GU10 240V Halogens with LED 240V Halogens, several years ago, and I have replaced one in the last 12 months. I have over 20 Led GU10s spread through the house.
I don't know if G4 and G9 240v Led exist, But Google is your Friend.

As a FYI,
I switched most of my lighting to E27 as its more the European standard and as such more readily available.
I've looked around and have tried a lot of lighting from various places, but convenience opens up by switching to E27... and most importantly IKEA does a large easily available selection of LED lighting that is relatively cheap (not "the best", but good options ad prices)
Five years after starting this thread about LED light bulbs, I think most people are using them as standard now.So I'm unsticking the thread where it will drift into the wind.
The only non led light I have in the house is in my son's Lava Lamp!
