This may be controversial, and is not something I support but...

Wouldn't the west benefit from the Islamic world turning in on itself?

And the west selling arms to both sides?

Or maybe I'm just a cynic.

It might.
Neither of us wants it to happen but there isn't much we can do to stop them.

Makes the Vienna talks very interesting. Iran and their troops are important component to USA and allies in fully defeating ISIS/IS/Daesh.

Just how big is the divide in the Muslim world? If Iran revealed it does have nukes and Israel took action would that be enough to unite them?Or would the doctrine of "my enemies enemy...." Win the day?

The different scenarios are mind boggling.

It's not so much divides in the Muslim world, it is groups looking for another group to attack.
Look at Libya, almost as many factions as people.

No as the whole region is too fractured. The Saudis would probably love nothing more for Israel and the US to decimate Iran as it saves them the hassle of having to do it. On the flip side the Saudis would love nothing more to wipe Israel off the face of the earth with there on the shelf Pakistani Nukes. Also who is going to want to attack Israel? They have aNukes that there more than willing to use and have second stike capability, one of the best equipped armies in the world and a ballistic missle defence system that would negate most countries offensive capabilties

As for the Nukes Iran as it stands has massive ammounts to loose by having them and more to gain by not. If anyone does attack it now over its alleged nuclear programme after getting this world wide approved deal it gives them all the aces. Also they can say look whats happend, a UN deal hasn't prevented this and the world has stood by so now we are going to develop Nukes. Thats what worries me about a real right winger like Rand Paul getting into the White House and tearing deals like this up.

Saw today that there was a UN vote condeming Iran for the attack on the Saudo embassy yet no mention of condeming what the Saudis did.

Hi,

Excellent post - Pretty much agree with all of what you have posted but I doubt the Saudi's would want anything to happen to Israel despite the public rhetoric & propaganda they spout out to keep the masses happy. They actually may have a very close working relationship with the Israeli's behind the scenes.

Israel is untouchable in the region for obvious reasons & the convoluted geo-political conundrums at play at the direction of Washington allow both countries to suckle the middle east for their own mutual advantages - after all both feel that they have common enemies that need dealing with first imho.

As for your last sentence, this is the standard policy we can expect from the UN - it is nothing but a toothless eunuch that is for the very main, controlled by & for the advantage of the US. It is, imo, nothing but a tainted body that prostitutes itself under the banner of international cohesion but in reality exists only to serve those that have the greatest economic & political control in the world.

Suave!

Not in the slightest. Israel would be dragged into the fight, which means the US would then get involved. The big danger though is various regimes falling and the likes of ISIS filling in the power vacuums. So no it wouldn't benefit us at all.

As for selling arms to various regimes in the region ? Probably one of the worst decisions we've made in geopolitical terms in quite some time. Though there is profit to be made out of war....

Hoping to kick back soon, A radical plan to give Dutch people free money is spreading fast

I always find the profit, shallow, it becomes a bit deeper for the profiteers when loved ones get, sent to foreign lands, to fight!Anyway, enough of emotion and back to the skrill, the net profit for UK plc on such trade arrangements with these regimes, must be poor. When its very possible that we are dropping a load of tax paid missiles on persons supported by the very same people that we trade with, House of Saud sympathisers, of ISIS/IS/Daesh. Factor in the Aid contributions, Security costs of those wanting to harm us from ISIS/IS/Daesh, the stupidity of profit, is rather incredulous.
