Greeting a Member of The Royal Family
Then again it doesn't cost anything to address anyone you are not that familiar with with the formal form out of some common decency does it?

Which is what I've said previously and what I practise. Unfortunately not everyone seems to do that though data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

You can be contemptuous of the institution that is the Crown/Monarchy, but you can show respect to the Queen and those in line to the throne. Corbyn's either sworn an oath of allegiance to the Crown or a solemn affirmation many times -
The whole point of the Ceremony involving Black Rod hammering on the door of the Commons and leading MP's to the Lords is to show the independence of the Commons from the Monarchy. Hence why MP's don't bow to the Queen when they are in the Lords. The English Civil War still ripples through, this particular ceremonial procession dates to the 1850's. It's not that old relatively speaking...
"I hear one grows marrows" would probably be a conversation starter. The Queen's likely had to deal with many Prime Ministers who resent her power or her position in society. She's the one who makes Parliamentary Bills legal with the swish of a pen and a royal seal by constitutional convention. We are theoretically always one bill away from a Constitutional Crisis. Unlikely to happen with the Queen, as she does not like to rock the boat in Public. Charles might be a different matter, given how politically active he seems to be.
Corbyn could yet become PM, so we may see how that goes when the camera's are on him at the Palace meeting the Queen. The stuff of dystopian nightmares for some I'd guess.

Who knows - maybe the Queen finds Jeremy quite refreshing. No bowing and scraping and someone who has experience enough to converse with as equals.
As others have pointed out the national anthem is all about God and Monarch. If you're an atheist and a republican then just stand up, stand tall, look ahead and keep the mouth shut until the singing is over. There is no disrespect to the Queen in doing that.

Look at Boris performing the ancient sniffing ceremony to smell Tim's spaniel. Very respectful.
I would have liked some traditional kissy noises off him too ...

Because the Monarch is a traditional institution, we have many others, nothing wrong with respecting a timeless institution and it's legacy. Of course the alternative is to be disrespectful or at least appear to be, not a fine quality in a citizen, hardly a shining example of civic duty. It's what ultimately puts me off socialism, the destruction of institutions, without care for the past or the future.

What traditional institutions has socialism destructed?
