The photo isn't great but I am fairly sure the medals he is wearing are:
- Queen's Police Medal for Gallantry
- Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal
- Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal
- Police Long Service and Good Conduct (22 Years Service)

So three for long service (same as the Armed Forces) and one for gallantry/distinguished service. I think the latter entitles him to a fair hearing rather than an internet/social media lynching!

Will there be a hearing? it happened over 18 months ago.
Is there any point to holding a hearing,he has already said what he did at the time of the event,,the issue is whether his actions (or lack of) are acceptable by any serving member of the police force .
If they are then fine, nothing is going to change the fact that PC Palmer is dead

Agreed.

What is not mentioned above was that in the same car were two civilians in the car. From crashing into the barriers to being shot was 88 secs.

The most likely outcome of him leaving the car and trying to help was himself getting stabbed (great target for a terrorist) and potentially putting the people in the car at risk.
I guess he could of tried to run him over but again that is probably not very useful because of the barriers.

Usual sad lynch mob in here, moan about trial by social media, then inflict the exact same mentality to the OP. Bunch of hypocrites the lot of you...

I don't know if there will be hearing - I suppose that hinges upon whether he is actually done something wrong. In coming to a determination on that, the relevant authority will take into account what was done, what was not done and all other relevant factors. However outraged some on the internet may be, they do not have the totality of the facts.

justincase Publish time 26-11-2019 01:46:01

I don't know if he haseither but the question afaict is whether a regular PC would be treated the same..
He surely must have filed a report about it pretty soon after the incident so doesn't look like whoever the relevant authority are have deemed his action unacceptable..Plus the fact he retires in December makes it even less likely..
The facts (by his own admission) are that Craig Mackey did not go to the aid of a fellow officer ..
I'm not saying he's wrong for that ,people react differently to certain situations but if i was him i would certainly not be keeping any Gallantry medal

But there are so many other factors to consider - Trollslayer mentioned some earlier but, off the top of my head, others are:

- Is/was he medically fit to actually have been able to do something?

- Did he have a duty of care or responsibility to the civilians in the car he was in?

- Would his presence have influenced/changed the initial actions of the first responder Officers?

- What protective/support equipment did he have? What are Police rules about engaging without it?

- What was the layout of the ground and how did that influence his thinking?

- How much (recent) experience does he have as a first responder or as an incident commander?

- How much experience/specific knowledge did he have of the Police operation around Westminster?

- What are Police rules and regulations on the relevant issues/areas?Did he act within them?

- Would his rank slides have made him a high profile target? Could it have emboldened the attacker?

...there are probably dozens of other factors as well.

The OP has written the following from other sources about the senior police officer concerned:

1. Disgrace
2. Neglected his duty
3. Failure
4. Gross misconduct
5. Dereliction of duty
6. Lack of leadership
7. Cowardice

The OP is quite prepared to write down what other people are saying but says nothing himself.

If at a later date it was shown there was a very good reason why the senior police officer did nothing to help, what are the chances of solicitors contacting AVForums for a meeting to discuss recompense of one type or another?

It will mean a lot of forums.
