I mentioned the Catholic Church as another example as they have been in the news on this subject: LGBT lessons suspended after complaints from Christian and Muslim parents - Premier
Looking at your posts within this thread I see a theme, so lets leave it there.

Whilst its not there, it wouldn't surprise me though....The Catholic Church doesn't have a good track record in that field unfortunately...

Some of the elements in Morris dancing come from Spain e.g. the black face character represents a Moor who were Arab traders who were responsible for things like Alhambra, maths from India which included decimal numbers etc.

I thought the “black” face was to hide from the tax man and all look the same but disguised and was more dirt related.

There are many different origins and derivations for differing regional and historic folk 'characters'.
Some are said to be based on the Moors, some on miners, some representing the night or fairy folk and as you mentioned, some based upon purely disguise.
It's not always easy to identify the actual origins, especially universally because of the regional variations and how they diverge and what is the truth and what is simply old wives tales.
To put things into context of how folk characters and history are not easy or necessarily logical to establish, up until and including the 19th Century, it was quite common for people to believe that pains were caused by elves shooting invisible arrows or stabbing you with a dagger.
