MOD COMMENT: Can people please stop calling politicians they don't like "bastards" or other veiled swear words. It's not big and it's not clever and Sve is already serving a short holiday for overuse of such words. Remember that this is a Family Friendly Forum.Mostly data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Wasn't it used earlier in the context of John Major's treacherous eurosceptic colleagues?
- as recently repeated by Paddy Ashdown several times over a few minutes during the day on BBC News

I hope it's OK if it's their actual name, as in Rik Mayall's character?
I presume that this also applies to the sporting forums? I was just asking as I am a big fan of curling and was about to start a thread dedicated to the great Austrian master of the rocks.

It would be better if English Labour, Greens and LDs stood under a(n) (Progressive) Alliance coalition at the next Westminster election, agreeing to put up only a single candidate in each constituency to exploit FPTP.
The DUP and UUP have a pact and step aside AFAIK to have one Unionist candidate.

It was and I discretely edited it out data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7If it was meant to be a direct quote from a politician and had been in quote marks I would have left it.

Aah, I use the term sometimes regarding William the Conqueror and in the Game of Thrones thread as well.

See note 2.
The swear filter doesn't pick it up so I thought it was okay though sometimes I self censor it.

A good friend of ours suddenly died a couple of weeks ago. A very intelligent woman who became extremely well thought of as a probation officer. She was also at one time a Labour party activist. I remember our last meeting talking about the coming election.
Me: The Tories might win again!
Her: Bastards!!!!!
The very last word she said to me. An hour later she died.

Not a problem, it's OK to use it if you are discussing an illegitimate child (or grown up) in context, and there are other valid uses such as bastard file, bastard sword, etc.And Alan B'stard as already noted. It's only if used as a rude word that it gets pulled up.
I'll pretend I didn't see Gibbsy's post as it's almost a quote. Don't push your luck though data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

However in our democratic system we vote for a local representative to represent our community at Westminster. Percentage of overall votes cast across the UK is irrelevant.
The party politics element though ingrained isnt a formal part of our democratic system.
