I asked on the Les Paul forum and virtually got laughed at because they all said that you can't 'unscrew' the pickguard and not leave a hole behind. I said I thought I'd heard similar to what you've posted, but maybe it's a UK thing?

Having said that; since I changed the strings on my 50s Tribute I'm getting more used to the feel of it (50s neck obviously), so perhaps I don't need to worry about finding one with the slim taper neck...once my Epiphone is traded in I won't have anything to compare it to, so having both with 50s necks might make more sense if I'm sure I've got used to it.

Just look for the metal bracket, which the screwless version doesn't have.
As I understand it, you'd have to be screwless to buy a 2015. data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Actually I'm sure they aren't that bad, but they seem to have appeased the internet Gibson gurus with the 2016 models. Of course I haven't played one yet, so might not suit me anyway (would be cheaper I suppose).
I have played on a friend's Gibson LP and it was beautifully set up and great to play. I ought to ask him what model/age it is (I know he's had it 5years).
I'm sure you'll find something to suit but the Traditionals have screwless PG.

That's a Traditional HP though. I don't want the robot tuners and some of the other changes over the Standard, but I see what you mean about the pick guard.
Nice LP, goes well with the Orange stack too.

Unfortunately this shows the pick guard is screwed in, so the Andertons ones seem a bit of a special. I'll see what they say when I call in today.
Well, I tried out the 007 Bassbreaker head with the matching 1x12 cab today. Of course I chose the Standard LP without the pickguard to play through it. The 007 was OK, but seems to be mostly a 'dirty' amp as it was hard to get a clean tone out of it unless the gain was near 0. Reminds me of my old Blackstar HT5-R which was a bit too gain-y for my liking.
It didn't matter because while I was trying it, someone else bought it online and they had no more in stock. They'll be getting more in of course, plus the 15 watt head will be in stock by then so I may as well try that out.
The cab sounded good, with plenty of bass. This is good because my custom cab arrived as I left this morning (of course I had to unwrap it before going) and it looks superb with the matching gold pin striping over the top of the cab. I'll swap the speaker over this evening and take some pictures to post.
Back to the LP: I very much liked the feel of it, so the slim taper neck seems to suit me. I'm guessing it had 10s on it too, but I didn't seem to have a problem with them either. Hard to tell much about the sound as I wasn't familiar with the amp of course, but I think the pick ups had plenty of output (burstbuckers I was told FWIW). It was well set up too, nice action all the way up the neck and no buzzes. All the controls worked smoothly and no clicks or other electrical gremlins (of course you'd expect this for a £2kguitar).
I would have to get the frets filled down as per my Tribute though...medium jumbo still feels like a speed bump to me, but £80 for this plus a fine tuning by my local Luthier would be worth it to get it just spot on.
I'll just have to see how carried away I get doing the living room as the new AT screen isn't cheap and I'm adding 8x Peerless 10" subs to sort out the room nulls to go along with my pair of 15" subs I built previously. There's some curtains and stuff as well (so says the OH) so I just hope there is enough left in my 'slush fund' by the time it's all done as I'd really like this LP now I've tried it.

Just done a couple of shots, but didn't do any angles, just straight on...I'll take some later on for you. He has done a beautiful job of it, the back is in three sections so I could run it open backed if I want (I did briefly just to check my soldering). Once I put the back panels on the bass come up nicely, so I think this will be my preferred set up.
