Any Books Aimed At Children Good Enough For Adults?

Just been in ASDA and was passing a children's section and though there seems to be some there that adults read and was wondering if anyone found any authors and title that they read as an adult that were originally aimed at children?
For instance Harry Potter been read by many adult, like wise Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials.

I read The Hobbit and never though more about it only to be told it was a children's book.

"Yes," is the short answer. There are loads of books that fit this category - it's even its own genre, specifically called "crossover" for exactly that reason.

Simple does not mean simplistic.

As I've stated elsehwere, I'm currently reading Pigeon English, which is longlisted for the Man Booker Prize - one of the most prestigious literary awards in existence. And yet, Pigeon English is arguably a teen fiction novel - it's just that it's brilliantly written.

Again, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is worth a look - a teen novel, but fantastic nonetheless.Same goes for Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi, and the six-book series (starting with Wolf Brother, I think...?) by Michelle Paver (for which she won the Guardian Prize for Children's Fiction earlier this year), and Unhooking the Moon by Gregory Hughes.

And many, many more.

The Artemis Fowl series are also very good and suitable for both audiences.

Quite a lot of the fiction i read are teen/crossover books. Whilst i love adult books, sometimes teen books can stir my imagination a bit more data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I've currently been reading the Lemony Snicket books, they are childrens books but amusing enough. When I read the thread title my first thought was Harry Potter.

I have read ( & found them all quite good ) the H.I.V.E ( higher institution of villainous education ) by Mark Walden. 5 books in the series & similar to Harry Potter but obviously not about magic..... look them up data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I've sampled some of my daughter's reading material over the years. I would recommend the Lemony Snicket books and Darren Shan (Saga of Darren Shan, Demonata).

Would you consider the Discworld books to be in this class?
