Thanks. Will see how I get on for the time being and see if any any mounts would help. It's a shame I thought someone may have invented a device which would have cancelled the noise. The newer Gtrs haveactive noise cancelling but they are designed to prevent road noise rather than drone.

If I use this y pipe do you think that would reduce the drone noise as it has a silencer. My current y pipe doesn't have a silencer. I don't want to lose the overall sound just the drone.

I have also attached a pic of my current y pipe for comparison.                                                                         https://www.avforums.com/attachments/screenshot_20180217-164212-jpg.980864/                                                                                https://www.avforums.com/attachments/screenshot_20180213-175245-jpg.980865/

LOL! I think they may be annoying in a slightly different way!

I know a bit about the physics of tubes and resonance - change the length or cross section of the tube and you will change the frequency at which it resonates.A trombone note goes down as you extend the slide and make the tube longer.
Adding components or taking them away will definitely change the resonant frequency and so will change how the pipe vibrates - I can't tell you if it will move that point to somewhere better or worse for the revs where it drones.

Got the car booked in a for a service on the 26th and will speak to the garage to see what they say.

Drone is still annoying after a few weeks!

Does anyone know what causes the drone, is it the y pipe or the rear boxes? I was thinking about changing one of them back to standard but wasn't sure which one to try first.

I've never understood this saying...the “up” bit.
What's wrong with “they will have to change it”?

Think I have finally resolved the drone! Changed the y pipe to an akrapovic y pipe and reinstated the stock middle pipeand rear boxes. Drone is much more acceptable now.
