If the dealer hadn't MOTd it before sale, they would have sold it to you with just 3 months MOT. It's normal for a dealer to advertise as 'full 12 months MOT' which means they would have the test done right before selling it, as in this case.

It didn’t need an MoT and the dealer did it a few months early.

I think the dealer wanted to sell it with 12 months MOT rather than 3 months as it was also taxed for a year as well.

It didn’t have or require an MoT as it was under 3 years old. The buyer will have taxed it, as is the way these days.
