I would also question how often you need to change gear in a manual on a clear motorway.

When the motorway limit changes from 120kph to N/A and you drop from 6th to 4th and punch it data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Loads of times according to the documentary fast and furious (I think it is called that). The technical term is CPM (changes per mile) and I think you need to be in the high 20's.

Or a following wind.

There is a rather nice jet turbine powered car (Rover) in Gaydon, just point to the horizon and see how quick you get there..... would that have had gears? I hope it would have a slider faderlike smashy and nicey.
Tis why I love diesels, or larger capacity more than 4.

I'm an advanced driver that has done the majority of refresher courses on automatic vehicles. With two hands on the wheel it's far safer. The police and fire service vehicles are predominately automatic. No matter what type of vehicle is being driven a bad driver is a bad driver.

On a twisty mountain road you can get as much fun and enjoyment out of using paddle shifts as you can with that coffee grinder thingy.
