Can’t believe the great suggestions already.
Shame a Datsun 240z is also a bit expensive. Anyone had an older Nissan Skyline?

If only this was a petrol version I'd be buying it and sticking it in a lock up for 10 yrs. The price of these will only increase.

Escort XR3, XR3i and RS Turbo, will eventually go the way of the MK1 and MK2.

Corolla GT86; first Skyline models; MR2?
I think some of the Saab models could be worth a punt, particularly turbo ones.

Not for £10k. You’ll be lucky to find one that hasn’t rusted away.
A friend of mine has an E30 touring, but had the lawn mower 1.8 removed and 3.5 litre V8 inserted, complete with NOS. It is also stripped out and with roll cage.

There are some dirt cheap barges out there but with any "classic" check what the major cost for a replacement part, say in the ignition system or lighting or turbo. The old days of tweeking the points or changing the coil for a meagre sum vs £300or more for a complete coil pack and can only service with a computer can catch the unwary. Unless of course you buy old school or have the means.
Then the availability of parts. Look at items you may well have to change during ownership such as discs or bearings, can you source them. Look at the support through various forums, and online sellers. Not the risk you run on eBay, but full on complete parts for old stuff such as Rover/MG or brake callipers for Jags. They are out there.
Then buy without the rose tinted spectacle and blinkers of shiny. But try yo see if you know someone who knows about the marque to come along or get it assessed in agarage for chases condition etc. Remember an MOT is not proof that is it a good un.
Really really want to get a Mini Cooper myself. Original. But not sure I can fit in it anymore......
