Yup fair point.

I’ve got a switchable exhaust that goes between loud and fudgeing loud. A bit childish but when driving the lanes to/from my home there are a lot of bends and lots of cyclists. I’m normally sensible to have mine in the normal mode. I always hang back before blind bends as it is to dangerous. And most cyclist are good as well, they appreciate it and will signal when it’s ok to overtaken. And I do so in a civilised manner avoiding overrun etc.

But some are dickheads, and not aware or courteous to other road users for coexistence. So when it then is finally safe and I can see for myself, it goes into all hell breaks loose mode and they’ll be awaken to the loud roar and likely a pop/bang when I overtake and shift up.

Childish I know....but great fun.

Some cars can get the over-run blip built in especially on downshifts with auto boxes. Think the Golf R is such a car.

I swapped out the back box on my Z4 to stop it doing this, as the noise was fun when I first had it but it got annoying quite quickly. All I get now is a nice burble if downshifting hard.

Must be my age...

There is a guy near me with a Harley that is so unbelievably loud. Normally I think they sound lovely but this is so over the top and the guy drives like a prick around our estate at unsocial hours ragging the tits off it. I’m in two minds about reporting him as it must exceed some noise level limit.

Seems to be a surge in noisy cars racing up and down the main road about a quarter mile from my house late at night since summer holidays started, as I keep getting disturbed at around 2:30am in recent weeks data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Guessing it’s the same yoofs who congregate in the supermarket car parks every evening with their crummy old Fiestas, Mk5 Golfs and such like which they’ve made as loud as possible by removing the exhaust silencer and fitting those beach-bucket sized tailpipes.

Wouldn’t mind so much if they could somehow make their rust buckets roar like a V8 Mustang but they just emit a piercing high-pitch rasping noise which makes the neighbour’s petrol mower sound good //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif

There's a Harley that comes past us every so often - it can be heard for at least 30 seconds before it can be seen and for 30 seconds after. It sounds like a giant cement mixer has had a ton of bricks chucked in, plus some scaffolding poles dropped from a great height - all at less than 30mph.. It can't be pleasant to ride, as it is so loud (inside our double glazed house) which is more than 20 meters from the road.

Sounds like you live on my road! The guy near us also seems to go to work early (waking my kids up) or just at/after their bed time, waking my kids up. He blips the throttle on purpose too. Utter prick.

I was told the Vanquish was too noisy on startup; it's all part of the theatre of these things though (exhaust valves briefly open on startup for a bit of music / unwanted noise, depending on your tastes). Fortunately the later cars (all the turbocharged ones feature electronic rather than vacuum controlled exhaust valves) have a quiet start function.

Most sporty cars with a dual clutch transmission or decent auto box (ZF for example) tend to 'parp'. Ignition being cut briefly on upshifts means a surplus of fuel that's ignited while on its way through the exhaust system. Things like my Countryman JCW do it in sport mode once the exhaust is up to temperature; it's a bit of fun for a few minutes, and then becomes a bit tedious.

IIRC the noise cameras are more for use in urban areas where decibel readings need to be constrained due to residential properties in the vicinity. The M140i had quite a loud start up as it would open the wastegate fully to aid warming up. Not great when your trying to sneak out early hours but a quick blip of the throttle would close the wastegate and quieten things down.
