Driving in the USA

Looking for some advice.  I am travelling to Orlando in the next few weeks and have hired a car. I am reading and hearing conflicting advice as to if I need an International Driving Permit.

Anyone have any insight as to the requirements. Different websites seem to say different things and people I know who have driven in America recently say they never had one. Don't want to get caught out .

I've never had one, or been asked for one. The last time I drove over there was 2014-ish.

Ditto, last time was last year. Complete and take a printout of this form. The hire company could ask for it although I've never been asked to produce it.

Been every year since 2001 - only had to show my photo id licence the last 15 years.
Stopped taking the paper part as it was never asked for.
That's with Dollar, Avis, Thrift and Alamo.

An IDP is only required as a translation device - where the licence language differs from that of the country.  So, no.  There was a brief period wen Florida's State legislature passed a flawed, and probably illegal, law, but that has since been amended.

Thanks for the info guys. You would think these things would be black and white but according to lots of websites USA is on the list of countries that require one.
