German Christmas Markets

Never been, but toying with idea.  Any suggestions of best ones to visit for scenery and atmosphere.  Would also be looking for a hotel (central and luxury rather than budget).  Or is it too late to get a good hotel this year?

PS I do mean in Germany rather than uk

Oddly enough I had the same discussion last night, but ended up shortlisting Bruges

I did consider Brugges but we have been there twice before (though not at Christmas) and so I was thinking of trying somewhere different

im off to Basel in Switzerland in December for christmas markets.

Have settled on Koln, Germany.  Mainly because we can easily get there by Eurostar and I can get what appears to be a decent hotel right by the Cathedral and one of the markets.

I remember going to one in a small town called kall in germany... was amazing...got drunk on gluhwein and seeing a scottish bloke dressed in a kilt playing the bagpipes there haha..!

I was in Berlin a few months ago for a stag. Great place lots of history. And massive German market.
