Stuck in a dilemma here: both the same price, around £250.

S2 is 2 or 3 years old, but is OLED screen and is 4:3 screen ratio.

Tab A was only released in August, so is much more recent, but LCD screen, though has Dolby Atmos Quad speakers.

Does the age of the device matter? They seem 'fairly' similar in specs.

I want a tablet to browse the internet and to play games like eight ball, flight sim. Not interested in using it for Netflix or video viewing.

Thoughts?

No competition - go for the Tab A 10.5.  I have an original Tab S and my wife has the Tab A 10.5.  Hers is much quicker and much more up to date.
I assume it would be a used Tab S2?

No, I was going to buy the S2 new, is £249, same as tab b.

So you don't think the AMOLED screen is a deal breaker?

Not at all.  The AMOLED is nice but it's much more useful to have an up to date Android version for app compatibility.

Agree the 10.5 is the better choice. The S2 isn't on the list to receive the Android 9 pie update and eventually it will drop of the security update list at some point also

I have just recently sold my S2 and bought the Tab A 10.5 (2018) because I wanted a larger screen and the 4 speakers are great, however, I have to say, the S2 was (is) excellent candidate I can't fault it at all.

This tablet (Tab A) is particularly good for gaming and watching movies and of course browsing the internet.

I don't regret changing.

The only tablets I've ever owned were a Nexus 7 and then the later version of the Nexus 9. Around November last year my Nexus 9 started developing problems with charging. The charge icon was lit up but often little or no power was going into it. I googled it and from what I read it was a battery problem. I replaced the battery and it still wasnt charging properly. Around the middle of February I replaced the usb charging port and that did the job however about 3 weeks later something inside the Nexus 9 has went and I'm just getting the bootup logo. Spent hours since Thursday until today trying to fix it and have decided it's no longer worth the time or effort. I've lost everything on it anyway as I tried to (unsuccessfully) do a factory reset so have decided to move on and get a new tablet. I really just need something similar to the Nexus 9 as I'll be using it for web browsing, youtube, netflix , watching football and some gaming (nothing too demanding on the tablet, Angry Birds, Cover Orange etc).

Have seen a new 9.7" 32gb Samsung S2 for £215 and am tempted but not sure if that's a good price or if it's similar to the Nexus 9?

My budget was £200 but willing to go around £20 more if needed
