So.... just wondering what people think about side loading of apps onto the oculus quest?

What have people's experiences been so far?

I haven't tried anything yet, as I'm still weary of enabling developer mode, but I'm interested to hear your stories.

From past experience with android devices, I notice that things tend to run better/are more reliable with stock software, and that enabling developer mode and modding software tends to lead to a short period of improved performance followed by a host of bugs and glitches and that "why didn't I keep it stock" feeling.

Will this be the same with the quest?

What apps have you all tried on the quest? What works well? What doesn't work well?

I have a pretty nice gaming PC, so I'm still tempted to try side loading to access steam vr via virtual desktop or similar app, but I'm hearing a lot of talk about latency and compatibility issues... what games work well? What's your experience of using steam vr with your oculus quest been like so far?

Thoughts and opinions...

I am using Side quest mate for Beat Saber and it is running superb with no issues whatsoever.
Got loads of classic tunes from the 80's 90's and modern new tunes to wave my sabers at.
It as got a superb interface for uninstalling apps and games as well.

Cool. Thanks guys.

Any issues or drawbacks noticed yet?

Also, how do the custom songs compare to those on something like moonrider.xyz?

I didn't buy beatsaber yet because I basically played the song library to death on psvr, and I'm not a fan of imagine dragons, so not that interested in the dlc.

I tried some custom songs on moonrider and found that the targets didn't really sit well with the timing if the music in most cases.

There were also lots of songs that were super or supernova difficulty only.... which is too tough for me.

I liked playing beat saber on psvr but only on normal or hard.... anything above that is like crazy arm waving impossible to me lol.

Are there many custom songs that work well and have easier settings?

How is the hit detection on beat saber on the quest? On moonrider it's a bit hit and miss.

Any other games worth side loading?

anyone tried this yet?

SUPERQOT - 1996 called and SUPERHOT answered the phone

I have been holding off side loading for now because of my previous fears of using developer mode....but if this is real, it might sway me

::EDIT::

might be PC VR only at the moment?

Just Beat Saber tunes for me. Steam VR is nice but the calibration etc makes it tedious. Get a Vive Cosmos
