Newbie VR headsets??

Help needed ! Complete novice needing advice as want to buy my son a VR head set , I’ve been told the Oculus Go is the one to buy but not much help with why this is ? Except the best ones are wired? If anyone can please shed some light on this I would be very grateful otherwise I’ll end up buying something I know little about , don’t want him disappointed when he opens it . TIA

The Oculus Go is actually quite limited in what you can do with it, and not a headset I would recommend unless you just want it for watching movies and videos with. A much better choice would be the Oculus Quest. It works very well as a stand-alone unit (no PC or wires required) but also has the option (just announced but coming soon) of being connected by cable to a PC if you want to run a greater variety of more power-hungry VR software. For the price (£399) it’s hard to beat at the moment. The only possible drawback is that some people have found it a little uncomfortable, so either try to find somewhere your son can try one first, or make sure you buy it from somewhere which will allow you to return it if you find that’s a problem.

PSVR is worth a look if he already has a PS4. Otherwise, the Oculus Quest is probably your best bet.

PSVR, Quest or Rift S are the only newbie headsets I feel are okay to reccomend. And the PSVR I'd says steer clear of anything which requires tracking as its really bad
