Being shielded cable it is more difficult to terminate properly compared to unshielded UTP cable. Not properly earthing the shielding, and not using shielded Cat6A plugs or modules means it will never meet the Cat6A spec once installed, but for 1Gb ethernet data use it will probably be ok unless you make a real pigs ear of terminations. If the cable was used in an electrically “noisy” environment with lots of potential interference then incorrectly terminated shielded cables can potentially cause issues as the shield acts more like an antenna, picking up interference rather than helping screen it out from the cable. In a residential environment though you are unlikely to have major issues like this. Having said that I had a recent project where LED lamps were creating massive RF interference on all sorts of systems including UTP ethernet networks, wifi, and TV distribution!
Note that your current cable is going to be very stiff compared to Cat5e UTP, so if this is likely to cause you an issue during installation then see if you can swap it for unshielded cable instead. |
