Mixing DDR3 RAM - Sort of works then stops after reboot

Hi everyone, first time on avforums after a while.

So, trying to squeeze extra life out of an old computer. Adding 8gb of ram (matching pair of 4) to current 4gb (matching pair of 2).

On the first boot, it works. BIOS and Windows says 12gb RAM in 'About' tab of System. I can restart as often as I like and it'll still say 12gb in Windows. The problem is when I turn my computer off and turn it back on, it'll state 8gb RAM.

It's stable with the 8gb set, and I know the 4gb set works too. So both sets work, just not together. Are they just not compatable even though they work on the first boot? For whatever reason that other 4gb gets kicked out somewhere.

Does anyone have any BIOS adjustemnt suggestions or anything else to try please?

My motherboard is an old Asus P8P67 and these are the ram sets.

Try swapping the slots. Sometimes the smaller sticks need to be in the lower slots. Also, try updating the firmware. And finally, if the memory has different timings, you may need to adjust.
