looking at new laptop, SB2, Legion Y740 15t, or G7 15

Originally I started Looking at the surface book 2 with 1TB Space, 16GB ram with i7 and Nvidia graphics 1060 and would've gotten it had I had the funds nor did I want to apply and add the dell finance onto my reports.

It seems that I have to go gaming to get comparable specs to the surface book 2.
I like the G7 and Legion because it has an SSD & SSA HDD for storage. Both have 2080 GTX, Legion has more ram at 32gb vs 16gb (non-configurable) for the G7, Legion has a 1TB SSD & SATA vs G7 256gb SSD & 1TB SATA, both 15" screens with 9th generation I7 9750H 6 core processors and windows 10 Pro.

So Legion is superior in storage and ram compared to G7 and surface book 2. Dell Superior in Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.1 in legion and unknown in surface book 2.

though IMO it seems like it comes down to legion or g7 considering both has 9th gen processors versus older tech 8th gen. all 3 are around the same price at $3k

Dell has 4 year extended damage warranty vs 3 for Lenovo and None for Surface book 2.

If there's another manufacturer that I missed the please feel free. I value everyones opinion.

Laptop is replacing a toshiba Satellite with intel I7-4510U and 8GB ram, 14" Screen touch screen. So I'll be losing touch screen feature if I go with either Lenovo or Dell, SB2 has touch screen.

The first thing to ask is what will be your main use, ie graphics work, such as digital art/ photography, or gaming? Then we will be able to make an informed opinion?

Replacing a 5 year old laptop. Longevity so future proof to least 5 years.
Youbing, Netflix, Hulu, gaming, browsing. I can't play my Xbox like I used to so would like to get back into gaming. My Toshiba has basic info graphics so sorry limited on games.

Looking at 15 inch for portability.

Other than the two you've suggested perhaps take a look at the ASUS ROG Zephyrus 15.6 GA502DU GTX1660 Ti Gaming Laptop, same GTX1660 Ti graphics, but it has the AMD Ryzen 7 3750H / 2.3 GHz CPU. But there are lots of other ASUS gaming laptop products that are intel based CPU's that are seriously worth looking at. So your #1 post is the $3k figure your realistic budget or if only?

I also started researching the Alienware m15 laptop as well but that's beyond my 3k budget. Though with the sale I can get it down to 3500 which is 500 over budget.

I did look at Asus yesterday, a little confusing, can't buy direct from them and no customization available. Need to sift through all the different models and go through specs hoping to find what you want. Least that's what I got out of it.

3k is my realistic budget.

Toshiba cost me almost 2k at the time. Seems like to get something more future proof and to match or exceed my home Thinkpad which doesn't leave home so it's like a desktop. I'll have To step up to the high 2 range eclipsing 3k. The 3612qm in my thinkpad is beastly and that laptop has zero indication of slowing down. Destroys the 4510u in toshi.

Guess cause toshi is mobile it takes more of a beating. The cntrl buttons recently stopped working on it. Hitting shutdown doesn't shut it down. Need to leave hand on power to force close it.

It's worth taking a look at the Razer product line, rated as being some of the top gaming laptops.

On gaming tests RTX 2070 outperforms the GTX 1660 Ti by a long way and as you can imagine the RTX 2080 is way up above that.
