Hi,

Anyone know what computers would be good for a college? just for internet and word processing?  I am not looking for anything super expensive.  Currently we have Intel core duo OptiPlex 780 machines.

The Optiplex 780 will be fine unless it is not working properly.

Do you have a budget in mind, also is it just a base unit you need or a full pc including the screen

Don’t forget the OS, like Office and other software that you have installed, you may have to upgrade these too so factor in the prices for this.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I have no clue on the budget, I think if we can get around 3 computers if needing to replace them.  We have had some for 3 years now, I don't think the machines are slow, but we do get the average student complaining they are not up to Apple mac standards.

We have office 2010 and windows 10 on them and I suspect we will still use Office 2010.  However maybe we might purchase office 2016 license.  Not sure as yet.

We got the machines really cheap and they have held up nicely, would you believe £60 for each?  However I think after 3 years, its fair to try look for a new recommended spec.

Perhaps you could give me a recommended spec and a higher end spec. would that be ok?

Hi

Don't think you will get Mac standard unless you have a big budget to buy something that is i7 with 16gb  RAM and SSD.

What do they think is slow about them, without comparison to a Mac?

Just for web browsing and word spending money on i7 or even i5 machines would be a waste of money.

You call have a look at Dell out let to see what they have that you like.

Ok, thats sounds like good advice.  What sort of spec should I start with in looking at Dell site?

Like previously stated, it would be pointless to upgrade to a Mac or something with Intel i7, if all you will use it for is browsing and Word. You could get a very basic computer for this, if you are shopping for a College I understand you want to meet their needs to
