Laptop for studying?

Hi guys I am a old timer (43 years old) and have decided to enroll in a open University course, I start on Friday so ideally would like a laptop to study on I have a gaming pc but don’t want any other software and course work hogging all my memory so ideally on a lookout for a laptop:
I have upto £1300 to spend but would consider most things (course last about 3 years) so would like to use it after I finish open University and use it for Netflix,Sky go etc,
I have a apple iphone,watch and iPad but ideally would like to stay on windows as I will be useing a lot of softwares so don’t want any problems not opening them,
Most of the time I will be at home useing it but occasionally take it out with me so any ideas guys ?

Memory is only used by running programs, installing more stuff on your current PC won't reduce the memory available to games.

If you want a laptop for portability then as you haven't mentioned any specific performance requirements and you're spending mid-range or high end money then anything you fancy will do the job.

Thankyou for your reply it’s more of portability as well, my requirements something fast that can go through pages or load software up quickly so am I looking for a higher processor?
Will be useing a lot of Microsoft student software
I would ideally like to use it for streaming and maybe a little light gaming after I finished my studies in 3 years,
I’ve heard a lot about the dell xps 13 but I think that’s a lot of overkill for what I need it for

What software do you actually need to run on it? A lifespan for over 3 years for a laptop is a long time, in that case, an XPS is not overkilling it.

But first, you should be clear about what it actually is you need to do with it. A Chromebook may be all you need.

I’ve had some time to really think what I would need from a laptop and decided:
Price range around £500
Operating system: windows
What the laptop is for: studying,browsing,useing programs(Microsoft office etc)
Whatching Sky go,Netflix,streaming.
Screen size: 15inch preferably

So now I have narrowed it down abit any recommendations please ?

At that price point it may be challenging to get a light and portable model. But take a look at pc specialist for a few options.

Don’t forget that MS Office requires a separate license. In education google apps are normally provided for study as well. As such a Chromebook could be a lighter option with better battery life.

The thinkbooks from lenovo might suit your needs. lots on eBay through specialist resellers from business and schools so lots of supply.

Processor ?
Ssd ?
Graphic card shouldn’t matter should it ?

Definitely SSD. You don't do anything processor-intensive so I would not worry about that.
