Yeah, the GT 640 v2/GT 730 was fairly marginal for demanding gaming even when it launched in 2013.
AMD's RX 5000 series is currently on top but it's just been launched and is a bit sparse consisting of pair of beefy upper mid-range cards in the RX 5700 and RX 5700XT and a mainstream card in the RX 5500 which is only just starting to become available (in pre-built systems)
Oculus' recommended specs are a GTX 1060 or RX 480. The 1060 is still available and competing cards are the RX 570/580 and GTX 1650, as well as the new RX 5500.
The 1060 and 570/580 are older cards that'll consume more power for the same performance compared to the RX 5500 and GTX 1650.
There's also a GTX 1660 Super sitting in the middle at around the £220 mark offering to split the difference. We'll presumably see an RX 5600 drop in there at some point, but not soon enough if you need it ASAP.
I'm not familiar with VR kit and games so I can't really advise on how much benefit you'd get from going up to an RX 5700. |
