Problem Transferring Photos

My wife has some photos on her camera which she wants to put into the pictures folders on her laptop.She has two problems she needs to create a new folder in the pictures section into which she can copy and paste the photos but I cannot see any where to create a new folder and second when she is in pictures how does she get back to the desktop.Her OS is Windows 10 and as I use Windows 7 it is all strange to me.I bought her a card reader which she plugs in it is just transferring the pictures that's the problem

I've just upgraded from W7 to 10 & it's a steep learning curve, I'm in my 80th year but relishing the challenge. To create a file/folder on your Wife's LT, right click on her desk to top, go to NEW, click that & a new screen will open, Select folder, name it & drag it to where you want it to be, alternatively, leave it on the desktop, however, it would be better to move it to either her C drive, or if she has a D or E drive one of those, then create a short-cut to the desktop so you know where it is.

Suggest the following:- In Desktop open File Explorer (Left Hand end of the task bar - looks like a file folder) In File Explorer look for My Pictures. Open My Pictures and on the top line you will see New Folder, Click on that and rename the new folder with a suitable name. ("Summer holidays", "Christmas" etc.)
Open the card in the card reader and (using its location in the File Explorer) locate the folder with the picture files. Select all the files in that folder and drag into your new folder in My Pictures. You will have to run up and down the folder names in the Left Hand column to find My Pictures and your SD card. (Both will be there.)
To return to Desktop close File Explorer by clicking on the red X on the top right hand end of the screen.

Thanks for the replies my wife has just gone out but when she gets back will try both suggestions.

Once your pictures are on-board, again I suggest you process them using a photo editor (such as PaintShop Pro) before printing or saving to file.

In PSP (for example) you would see a list of folders down the LH side of the screen, you can open My Pictures to recover your photo files.

TIP:- Rename the photo files with relevant names to replace the .00001 style of file numbering. So much easier to find the file you want.
