Hi

I have the Panasonic HC V720 a great camera, but I'm having a slight issue with it on occasions where its locked on a tripod and the OIS is on, and sometimes the camera "moves" when recording on the camera there is a balancing line  where you get the camera straight.

I remember asking Panasonic for advice on this and they told me to turn off a feature in the options menu but I can't remember what it was called.
Anyone know?

Thanks
Rob

You said it yourself. OIS tries to stabilise the picture so when you "pan" the shot, the camera tries to stop the picture moving by trying to move it back to where it started.
So switch off OIS using the side menu on the screen and, if necessary, the Hybrid OIS in the Record Setup menus.

The "balancing line" is the "Level Shot" option and again can be switched off in the Record Setup menu.

A rule of thumb is to switch off the OIS when on the tripod because, when on the tripod, you do not need the image to be stabilised. When you have a few spare minutes, it is a good idea to go through the menus (with the user manual if required) and familiarise yourself with all the options. You will find you do not need most of them but, at least, you will know what they do.

P.S. I have family in Saundersfoot and I used to play the organ now located in Folly Farm. Happy Days.

You can download the manual from Panasonic UK's site. Had a quick look & the page referring to OIS is reproduced below..

Hi Terfyn,

Many thanks for your reply and help.

I got the "Hybrid OIS" setting off in the menu but I can't seem to find how to turn the balancing line off?

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Rob

P68 of the manual. Panasonic call it the Level Gauge. Find it on your Record Setup menu and switch off.
