Mini DV help

Hello ,


I have a lot of mini DV tapes and very little time to copy them to a hard drive.   I had recently decided to make a start and discovered my Macbook was not compatible with transferring from the the tape to a hard drive. I was advised to use an older Mac but I dropped it taking it out of the attic.

I really need to get the tapes on a hard drive and I’ve just been looking at alternate methods.

Can someone advise me on the best non-computer option?

I have been googling the JVC DR-DX5 but I can’t find any information on how it works.

Do I just pop in a mini DV and it transfers to the hard drive? Can I use it without a monitor? Does the video file hold the date and time of the original recording even if it was set to not show on the screen?
