I am thinking of getting a Ring video doorbell thingy and wondered is it necessary to buy chimes as well as what small amount of research I have done thus far I notice the chimes as a separate unit being sold?
Which one would be best, it would not be mains powered so simple battery recharging would be good?

Hi,
I have the Ring 2 doorbell on battery with a spare battery always charged ready to swap.
Also have the chime but bought that more to boost the signal to a Ring spotlight camera.
The chime is useful to avoid the need to using your phone/tablet to get alerts and has the advantage of being able to move around the house eg upstairs if you wish

So you would advise getting the chimes as well as the Ring 2, I must admit I tend not to carry my phone around when I am home?

If you don’t carry your phone then I would say yes.
It also depends on the size and layout of the house as the chime doubles up as a bell chime and signal extender.

I was thinking of getting a Ring as well and was wondering if you can an Amazon Echo (ones without a screen) work as a chime?

I've no personal experience but yes that functionality is part of the Alexa skill for ring doorbells.

I have decided to push the boat out and buy a Ring Door View Cam as my piece of junk Chinese wireless bell has annoyed me by not working for one last time. Seems my local John Lewis has them in stock so will have a look tomorrow .
